2018: A time for reflection

A message from Executive Director Cornelius Sanders

As I reflect on the outgoing year, I’m filled with great joy. Promise’s staff and its community partners accomplished a lot in 2018, and we couldn't have done it without friends like you.

The Affordable Housing staff moved six (6) new families into the North Memphis community. It's always a highlight for me to see new houses being completed, keys being given to new residents and seeing the smiles on children faces as they lay claim to which bedroom will be theirs.

We were thrilled to have two students from the University Of Memphis and Lemoyne Owen intern with us as they take the next steps in their lifelong journey of service. Our partnership with CAFTH Memphis and DCS grew with the addition of a Rapid Rehousing Program to get families experiencing homelessness housed quickly.

And with all the great things that we've achieved and experienced over this past year, I hate to end on a sad note. Our staff members with Promise Leasing lost two of their clients this year, and as I think of their passing, I'm reminded as to why we do this work. Prior to our community efforts to house these two individuals, they were classified as chronically homeless, defined by HUD as someone who has experienced homelessness four times in the past three years, but were housed and had a place to call home at the time of their transitions.

A big thanks to all of our staff, board members and community partners that worked so hard in order for us to do what we do. We're looking forward to accomplishing even more in 2019!
